Our Story

Who We Are

Wakirike USA, Inc., a national organization, was formed on July 2, 1993.  Wakirike USA is a nonprofit, nongovernmental and apolitical organization incorporated in the United States of America under subchapter 501 (c)(3). Our membership is drawn from all the clans and towns that make up the Wakirike nation.

The initial goal was to provide a forum whereby issues affecting our people everywhere could be discussed and acted upon. We resolved rather to form a formal entity - thus the birth of Wakirike USA, a National Organization, established and duly registered in Washington, DC on May 6, 1996.

The organization has since blossomed into an international humanitarian entity devoted to sustainable development in the areas of better health, youth development and the alleviation of poverty in Kirike Be Se and the Niger Delta. Although the primary focus is the desperately impoverished Niger Delta region, Wakirike USA contributes regularly to disaster areas around the world. For example, the organization sent monetary aid to the victims of the tsunami, hurricane Katrina, the Haiti earthquake, among others.

Our Mission

To address the needs and support efforts to eliminate poverty, disease and hunger in the Niger Delta, particularly the Wakirike communities and around the world.

Our Vision

Reclaiming our glorious past, promoting and improving the well-being of our people by identifying the challenges and needs of our communities and by designing programs to address and meet the challenges and needs so identified.

Our three broad national projects and initiatives are:

1. Better Health through the provision of medical equipment and education on preventive measures.

2. Wealth and capacity building through our microfinance (Microcredit) scheme. and the support and promotion of educational excellence

3. Youth Development which includes training, skills acquisition, scholarships and grants.

create an environment in which the Wakirike people in the Niger Delta are healthier, wealthier and better educated by the year 2030.
